WINNIPEG – The Stony Mountain Institution north of Winnipeg is in lockdown after an inmate fight Monday afternoon.

The prison remains in lockdown as corrections officials search cells, a process that is expected to continue for most of the week, assistant warden Guy Langlois said Tuesday morning.

A number of inmates were taken to hospital after the fight; Langlois wouldn’t specify how many. None suffered serious injuries and all are back in the prison, he said. No staff was injured.

Visits have been suspended at Stony Mountain.

RCMP and Correctional Service Canada continue to investigate, Langlois said.
