On the second anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death, people around the world are reflecting on the life and music of the King of Pop. You know about the incredible success of his albums, the mishap he experienced while filming a Pepsi commercial and about his numerous pets. But there are a few things you might know about M.J. Here they are:
* He was a big fan of The Three Stooges. "My memories of the Three Stooges, and especially Curly, are still with me to this day,” he wrote in a forward to a book about Curly. “In my childhood, around our house in Indiana, it was a daily ritual for me to watch the Three Stooges on television. All my brothers loved them then and even more so now …”
* In 1984, a library accused him of owing over a million dollars in overdue book fines. Officials said they would drop the fines if the books were returned autographed.
* Recording artist MC Hammer once challenged Jackson to a dance-off. Jackson demurred, allegedly saying, “I’ve seen your videos and every single dance move you use, you got off me.”
* He had a role in a 1991 Simpson’s episode called, “Stark Raving Dad.” After being committed to a mental institution, Homer meets a delusional white man who believes he’s Michael Jackson. The pop star performed the speaking voice of Leon Kompowsky and, for contractual reasons, was credited as John Jay Smith in the credits.
* His favourite animated character was Pinocchio. Jay Leno brought attention to that fact on the Tonight Show in 2007. “Some of Michael Jackson’s personal possessions will be auctioned off in Las Vegas…,” he said in a monologue. “One thing they won’t be parting with, though, his by Pinocchio doll. You know about this. Michael will not sell his Pinocchio doll. You know, on the off-chance that one day it might become a real, live boy.”
