SASKATOON – A Saskatoon company has been fined after a workplace death in 2011.

KWH Pipe pleaded guilty in provincial court to one charge under occupational health and safety legislation after a 57-year-old worker was crushed under a bundle of plastic pipe on Oct. 25, 2011.

The company was charged with failing to ensure no material was placed, stacked or stored in a manner that would constitute a hazard to workers.

KWH Pipe was fined $30,000 with a $12,000 surcharge. Four other charges were stayed.

In 2013-14, there have been 81 convictions for health and safety violation with fines totalling almost $607,000.
