Pedestrian killed in Highway 63 crash

EDMONTON – A man is dead after what police believe was a hit and run involving a pedestrian north of Fort McMurray.

Police say the crash happened about 10 kilometres north of Fort McMurray on Highway 63 near Suncor.

Another driver spotted the victim’s body at the side of the road.

When police arrived at the scene at around 1:30 Friday morning the man had already passed away. It’s unknown when the crash happened.

Police are still trying to determine the man’s identity.

The RCMP received a tip which lead to a pick-up truck being seized in the Fort McMurray area and a person of interest being interviewed by police.

Highway 63 around the scene was closed for a period before being re-opened later on Friday morning.
