EDMONTON – Wood Buffalo RCMP fully reopened Highway 63 south of Fort McMurray at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday following a fatal crash that morning.

RCMP officers were still on scene investigating the crash Tuesday evening.

Two people were killed Tuesday in a two vehicle crash around 10 a.m. on Highway 63 near Stony Mountain Road, about 45 kilometres southeast of Fort McMurray.

The highway was shut down to traffic in both directions for much of the day. Traffic was being re-routed and secondary highway 881 remained open.

Officers confirmed two people were killed in the crash but have not released their names.

RCMP were also warning motorists that road conditions were poor and extreme caution should be taken.
