TORONTO — Ontario is sending help to Alberta to battle a massive wildfire that has destroyed or damaged one-third of the town of Slave Lake.

Natural Resources Minister Linda Jeffery says Ontario is sending 85 firefighters to Alberta.

The firefighters will come from the Northeast and Northwest zones, with teams of four from locations like Timmins, Pembroke, Haliburton and Thunder Bay. They will be leaving for Alberta at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Ontario has so far only been asked for manpower.

But Jeffery says the province will consider requests for other kinds of help.
