Man robbed, shot, then assaulted

A man was shot and then beaten in a violent armed robbery outside a Vernon convenience store Friday night.

RCMP were called to the 7-Eleven on 39th Avenue just after 11 pm.

A 32-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle texting when a suspect jumped in the passenger side, pulled out a gun and demanded the man give him his wallet.

As the victim went to escape out the driver’s side door, he was shot in the shoulder.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the victim managed to make his way to the door of the 7-Eleven store only to be assaulted by two other males.

The victim was treated in hospital and released.

Police took two men into custody but are still looking for the shooting suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6’0″ with a thin build.

Police say it is too early to tell if the victim and suspects knew each other.

Anyone with information is asked to call Vernon RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
