Pregnant school bus driver survives crash

RCMP continue to investigate a fatal head-on collision between a school bus and vehicle near Summerland.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 97, north of Summerland between a northbound vehicle and southbound school bus from Penticton.

RCMP report the northbound vehicle crossed the centerline. The driver died at the scene.

There were eight students injured and a pregnant teacher is in stable condition. School District 57 sent out a release saying the teacher’s unborn baby continues to have good vital signs. A student sustained a head injury and has been placed in an induced coma while her condition is being monitored by Kelowna General Hospital medical staff.

While it was raining at the time of the crash, RCMP have yet to release further information about what caused the accident.
