Firefighters likely saved the life of a Montreal man Thursday morning in NDG.
The man was rescued after being trapped inside his burning apartment at 5309 Cote St. Luc Road.
Firefighters found him unconscious.
They performed CPR before rushing the man to hospital.
He’s now recovering and is expected to survive.
The victim was one of two residents hurt in a major blaze that began around 8 a.m. Thursday.
Thirty-two apartments were evacuated, forcing roughly 50 people from their homes.
It’s hoped they’ll be able to return in a few days.
"It was scary, we woke up, opened our door and all we saw was thick black smoke," one resident told Global News.
"I had to wake up some of my roommates. If I didn’t, I don’t know what would have happened," said another resident.
Fire officials believe the blaze started in the kitchen of a second floor apartment.
Sixty firefighters worked to put out the fire.
