It has been 17 years since a woman was killed in a B.C. park and no one has been arrested for her murder.

Wendy Ladner‑Beaudry was jogging near 41st Avenue and Camosun in Pacific Spirit Regional Park on April 3, 2009, when she was attacked.

Her body was later discovered on St. George’s Trail, just nine blocks from her home.

Over the years, investigators have identified and thoroughly examined hundreds of persons of interest, all of whom have ultimately been ruled out, the RCMP said in an update on Thursday.

They said that at this stage, the possibility that Ladner‑Beaudry’s death was a random act of violence cannot be ruled out.

“All of Wendy’s family and friends have been ruled out,” Her brother, Peter Ladner, told Global News on Thursday.

“We’ve all been through lie detectors and suspicions. And I’ve only got one thing to say to the armchair experts who watch TV shows and say, ‘Oh, I know it’s always this person or that person.’ Just shut up until you know something, because there’s no evidence of any of that.”

Ladner said he is convinced his sister’s death was a random homicide with no reason behind it.

“And that’s the reason, one of the reasons it’s been so hard to solve, is because there’s no motive and there’s no connection that any of us can figure out between the killer and Wendy,” he said.

“And so without those data points, it’s pretty hard to find people.”

Ladner said it would have been his sister’s 70th birthday on March 30.

“We just miss her dearly and hang on to some kind of frustration about the outcome, the fact that no one’s been held to account for that horrible crime and we just carry on.”

“Seventeen years is a long time, but our commitment to finding the person responsible for Wendy’s death has never wavered,” Supt. Bal Hansra said in a statement.

“We continue to pursue every lead, no matter how small, because Wendy and her family deserve answers. We believe someone out there still holds information that could help move this case forward.”

Ladner said the family deserves answers.

“More of my message would be that if someone knows this person, or knows what happened, for those people to step forward and maybe we can get some resolution to this,” he said.
