VAUGHAN- A 31-year-old man is facing numerous charges related to child prostitution after police say they rescued a 15-year-old girl during a traffic stop in Vaughan, north of Toronto.
York Regional Police say officers stopped a vehicle Thursday, in the area of Keele Street and Highway 407, because it had an expired validation sticker.
Police say officers then discovered a 15-year-old girl in the back seat of the vehicle who had no relation to the male driver.
It’s alleged that just prior to the traffic stop, the man had lured the girl to a nearby motel and engaged in sexual activity with her for the promise of money.
The victim was taken to a hospital to be assessed and was reunited with her family.
Americo Magana of Vaughan faces multiple charges including sexual assault, luring a child, procuring to become a prostitute and obtaining the sexual services of a person under 18.
Magana appeared in court Friday and was remanded in custody. He’s scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Monday.
Investigators have released a photo of the accused, saying they believe there may be additional victims or witnesses who will recognize him and come forward.
