Edmonton – A 20-year-old woman was killed Thursday morning in a Strathcona County collision.

Traffic was stopped in the area of 17th Street south of Petroleum Way shortly before 7 a.m. waiting for a train to pass. Police say a Volkswagen Jetta was stopped in traffic. The driver then reportedly attempted to make a U-turn across two lanes of traffic when it was struck by a truck.

The Jetta was hit in the front passenger door causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

The 20-year-old female passenger of the Jetta died at the scene.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Jetta and the 21-year-old male driver of the truck were both taken to an Edmonton hospital with minor injuries.

Strathcona County RCMP say it doesn’t appear drugs, alcohol, speed or road conditions were factors in the crash.
