Calgary Transit ponders raising rate for seniors and youth

CALGARY – Seniors, youth and low-income Calgarians may have to say goodbye to their deeply discounted fares on city buses and C-Trains.

It’s an option being considered by Calgary Transit, who says fare increases are needed to pay for expanded service.

Transit officials say they are considering changing fares to make them more equitable for everyone.

“This is a good opportunity to take a look at how those discounts are spread out amongst all our customers and balance them to so that everyone is paying their fair share, depending on what they are capable of paying and how often they use the system,” says Neil McKendrick, Manager Transit Planning.
