RCMP confirm vehicle caught in avalanche near Rogers Pass late Friday night

RCMP confirm a vehicle was caught up in an avalanche near Rogers Pass earlier this weekend.

The snow came down on Highway 1 late Friday night on to a commercial vehicle. The man driving managed to escape, only suffering minor injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Global News has attempted to contact H&R Transport for a comment.

Avalanche forecasters are asking people to stay out of the backcountry until the risk of snowslides decreases.

Sections of the Coquihalla Highway had to be closed due to the risk of avalanche and crews are conducting avalanche control to try and stop slides before they happen.

On Saturday afternoon a snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche on Boulder Mountain near Revelstoke.
