Mayor Rob Ford officially opens Toronto auto show

TORONTO – Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was in attendance for the official launch of the 2014 Canadian International AutoShow at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre Friday.

During Thursday media only event, the Mazda6 was named the 2014 “Canadian Car of the Year ” by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada.

Chrysler’s Jeep Cherokee was crowned utility vehicle of the year, beating out 18 other SUVs.

The winners are voted on by a group of Canadian automotive journalists, who gathered in Niagara Falls, Ont., last October for a five-day test-drive evaluation of brand-new or significantly changed vehicle models.

The AutoShow runs from Feb. 14 to 23.
