SASKATOON – A former Saskatoon Hilltop and University of Regina Ram will have to wait until April to find out if he is guilty on weapon and drug possession charges.
Adrian Charles was arrested by police in 2008 after he was pulled over in downtown Saskatoon after warrants were issued for his arrest in an Ontario shooting.
Charles was wanted on two counts of attempted murder and one of conspiracy to commit murder. Those charges were eventually stayed.
His vehicle was searched and a loaded semi-automatic handgun was found, along with cocaine.
Charles was originally acquitted in 2011 after a judge threw out the evidence on grounds police failed to have the Ontario warrants authorized in Saskatchewan. The acquittal was overturned on appeal.
On Thursday, Charles’ lawyer argued the evidence was inadmissible however the judge found the evidence was admissible.
On the stand, Charles stated the gun and cocaine belonged to a passenger who had been in the car with him prior to being pulled over.
The judge will hand down a decision on April 7.
