HALIFAX – A 19-year-old man escaped without injuries after his vehicle hit a pole and caught fire in Halifax.
Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, the teen’s vehicle crashed on Wellington Street and then caught fire, said Sgt. Christina Martin of the Halifax Regional Police. The 19-year-old fled the scene, but was later arrested nearby. As the investigation continues, police said they expect to press charges.
The collision took down the power lines, causing outages throughout South End Halifax. Within the hour, Nova Scotia Power crews arrived on scene to help repair the line. As of 5:15 a.m., power is still out for 848 customers. Wellington Street was closed from Inglis to South Streets to facilitate the work.
