Update on hit-and-run victim, Lorne Miller

LETHBRIDGE: A fundraising event is being held for a Lethbridge man who was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike home last month.

Lorne Miller was rushed to a Calgary hospital in critical condition after being found on the side of Stafford Drive North on January 26th with life threatening injuries.

He was on his way home from Average Joes Sports Bar where he is a cook.

The general manager at Average Joe’s, Tim Carter, says staff are now planning a fundraising concert to raise money for the Miller family.

“They have no income right now.  Marie is by his side in Calgary with the rest of his family so none of them are working, they really need all the support they can get right now,” he adds.

Miller’s wife Marie told Carter her husband’s condition hasn’t changed.

“She said he is battling infection right now, along with blood clots. He is still in a coma and on life support,” Carter adds.

Friends and family of Lorne are overwhelmed by the community support.

Tessa Hogan is a close friend of the Millers and says the donations and well wishes have been tremendous.

“I just can’t believe how supportive everyone has been, right from the start.  It wasn’t just for the first few days, it’s been the whole time and it means so much to all of us, especially Lorne’s family,” Hogan says.

Country singer Tebey, along with other special guests, will perform on March 6th at 9:00p.m. at Average Joe’s.

Tickets to the concert can be purchased at www.thejoe.ca for $15.00 dollars a ticket or you can buy them at Average Joe’s.

Half of the ticket sale proceeds will be donated to the Miller family, along with profits from a silent auction planned for the same night.
