LETHBRIDGE- Lorne Miller remains in critical condition in a Calgary hospital fighting for his life.
The 45-year-old was struck by a vehicle while on his way home from work early Sunday morning.
“Police received a call of a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist. The vehicle involved in the collision fled from the scene,” says Sgt. Russell Lawrence.
Miller is a cook at Average Joe’s Sports Bar. He was born in Hanna, Alberta, raised in Coaldale and now calls Lethbridge home.
His coworkers are shocked something like this could happen.
“Lorne is a wonderful guy, super nice guy. He is one of those gentle, big teddy bears,” says Tim Carter, the general manager at Average Joe’s. “He is very highly regarded here, everybody loves him. We are very devastated by the news.”
Miller was riding his bike home from work on Stafford Drive just before 3 a.m. when he was hit.

“Lethbridge Regional Police received a 911 call from a passerby who came across the collision,” says Sgt. Lawrence.
Miller’s wife Marie has been by his side throughout the ordeal. The father of four has had surgery and is still not awake, suffering swelling of the brain.
Family and friends along with the police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Police have several leads, including a surveillance image of a black SUV from early Sunday morning.
“That’s a vehicle of interest to us, just somebody we would like to speak to as they were in the area at the time of the incident,” adds Lawrence.
Police say there could be damage to the suspect vehicle, most likely on the front passenger side.
Donations are being taken at Average Joe’s to help the family because they don’t own a car and are trying to travel between Lethbridge and Calgary.
Friends and family are praying for Miller to make a full recovery and are asking the person who was responsible to come forward and speak to police.
If you have any information you are asked to call police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
