The town of Pincher Creek is located east of the Canadian Rockies, 45 minutes west of Castle Mountain ski resort and it’s only 45 minutes north of Waterton Lakes national Park. Don Anderberg, the mayor of Pincher Creek says it’s a mecca for outdoor activities.
“The area is phenomenal for wildlife and scenic beauty for the outdoors. Fishing, camping and hunting and the town has a lot to offer to people,” said Anderberg.
Pincher Creek has all the amenities of a large centre. There is a Walmart and several large chain hotels.

“The main issue is the housing situation. You cannot find a place to rent. We need more low income housing and subsidized housing to house people that can potentially work in these businesses,” adds Anderberg.
According to the mayor there are just over one dozen houses for sale in the Pincher Creek area and this is biggest obstacle for employers. The General Manager of Co-op says when he moved from Nova Scotia two years ago he had difficulties finding a place to live.
“As far as management positions, supervisory positions we are doing ok right now . But when it comes down to it when we need to hire somebody for those positions it’s getting increasingly harder to do that in a smaller community,” says David Crowell
The mayor says the push for low income and affordable housing is on the top of council’s agenda and residents believe it’s only a matter of time before this picturesque town gets the attention it deserves.
