Broncos, Leafs, Argos, Bills: is there a Rob Ford jersey curse?

TORONTO – Is there a Rob Ford jersey curse?

Each time the mayor has worn a jersey or publicly supported a team in a post-season or championship game, they’ve lost – badly.

Most recently, the Broncos – who were supported by the mayor when he donned Orlando Franklin’s jersey – were blown out in the Super Bowl, losing 43-8 to the Seattle Seahawks.

His brother, Doug Ford, said that question would have to be posed to the Denver Broncos.

“I don’t know, you’d have to talk to the football players on the team. I don’t think so,” he said. “Anyone who watched the games knows the Broncos didn’t have their best game. And you know Manning is one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, it wasn’t one of his best games.”

But there’s been more than just the one game.

Before the Super Bowl he wore a Buffalo Bills jersey to their game against the Atlanta Falcons at the Rogers Centre.

He also wore a Toronto Argonauts jersey to city hall a few days before they lost the Grey Cup, the same day he shocked reporters by making graphic remarks.

But probably most hurtful for Torontonians, the mayor declared May 6, 2013 “Blue and White Day,” wore a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey to city hall and predicted the Leafs would win the Stanley Cup.

Instead, the Leafs gave up a three goal lead and lost to the Boston Bruins in overtime of Game 7 in the first round of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs.
