Though many equate Russia with snow and ice, that’s the farthest thing from the truth for Sochi these days.
Temperatures in Sochi are more reminiscent of a nice spring day, not exactly the greatest for competing in alpine events. On Wednesday, the forecast calls for a high of 13 C. By Friday, the temperature could reach 16 C.
In the Alpine cluster, temperatures are not much better: Wednesday’s forecast is a high of just 10 C.

Sochi is actually a resort in Russia, with a temperate climate and a seasonal average of 10 C.
That’s making some of the courses difficult for skiiers and snowboarders.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Sochi Olympic Organizing Committee, said that, though they have about 700,000 cubic metres of stored snow, there’s no need to bring it in.
“We don’t need it,” he said.
