Canadian curlers lose to Switzerland in Sochi match

In an unanticipated upset, Canada’s Brad Jacobs and his team lost Monday against Switzerland in the Sochi Olympics round robin tournament.

The final score was 5 to 4.

Switzerland led since the fifth end, when it scored three points. That was too much for the Canadians to overcome, and they played catch-up for the rest of the match.

This was the second game on Monday for the Canadian team from Northern Ontario. They defeated Germany 11-8 in the morning.

They now stand with one win and one loss, in a three-way tie for fourth place early on in the tournament. There are seven more games in the round robin before the play-off.

The women’s team had a decisive victory on Monday, beating China 9-2.

The women next play at midnight Eastern Time on Tuesday (9 p.m. Monday night Pacific). The men also play Tuesday, at 5 a.m. Eastern (2:00 a.m. Pacific).
