Ontario Provincial Police are investigating if her death was foul play.
“It’s still classified as a suspicious death, until we get the toxicology results back,” said Const. Peter Leon.
Freeland was well known to Calgary’s street communities from spending her troubled teen years in shelters before moving to Vancouver.
News of her death has hit the street community hard.
On March 25, staff at The Alex hosted a memorial service so teens and workers could grieve together.
She had recently moved to Toronto, where she was employed for a short time at an escort agency, Cachet Ladies, before her death.
