Murder charges laid in Saskatchewan First Nations death

NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – Two men have been charged with second-degree murder after another man was killed on a Saskatchewan First Nation.

Bryan Darnell Blackstar, 24, died after an assault at a residence on the Moosomin First Nation early Sunday morning.

Two men were taking into custody and have now been charged in Blackstar’s death.

Taryn Lee Cote, 19, from the Saulteaux First Nation and Troy Andrew Swiftwolfe, 18, from the Moosomin First Nation have been charged with second-degree murder.

Cote and Swiftwolfe made a court appearance in North Battleford on Tuesday and will remain in custody until their next appearance on March 5.

Police say the accused and the victim were known to each other.
