RCMP officers responded and spent more than 15 hours negotiating with Beaver. Shots were fired during the standoff and two RCMP officers were injured.

In court on Monday, the judge accepted a joint submission of eight years less ten months served, as well as a lifetime ban on owning firearms.

The trial was scheduled to last eight days at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.
