FREDERICTON – The University of New Brunswick and its faculty union have reached a tentative agreement to end a strike that has kept 10,000 students out of classes for almost three weeks.
A joint news release from the university and the union says they are recommending suspension of the walkout after reaching the deal to settle key issues, including wages.
The agreement comes after both sides were ordered to meet with a provincially appointed mediator in an effort to resolve the situation.

Students could be back in class as early as Monday, after a 48-hour window passes immediately following the official end of the strike.
The Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers had asked for a 20 per cent wage increase over four years and the university was originally offering nine per cent.
The union said their requested increase was needed in order for the faculty to catch up with their counterparts elsewhere in Canada.
The strike began on Jan. 13 with picket lines at campuses in Fredericton, Saint John, Bathurst and Moncton.
Both the union and the university are expected to release more details on Friday.
