Credit card fraud becoming more sophisticated

CALGARY – The number of Canadians who fall victim to credit and debit card fraud is growing every year despite stronger security measures brought in by card companies.

Security experts are gathering in Banff this week to highlight the latest ways criminals are targeting new victims and what Canadians can do to protect themselves.

Mike Gervais, an investigator with the commercial crime section at the Calgary Police Service, joined Global News Monday morning to discuss just how sophisticated thieves are becoming, using blue tooth technology to steal your PIN information.

“This is organized crime. These fellows are actually looking for computer technicians that are actually doing this, the chips are all coming from either the internet or through Hong Kong or from the states.”
