In the Elevator: Cindy Klassen

Winnipeg’s Cindy Klassen joined us on the Morning News to talk about the upcoming Olympics and what it will be like to watch them on TV after competing in the previous three. Before that, we asked her to address the really tough subjects. Like when was the last time she worked out at the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex.

It was a little over a year ago, she said.

“I came back for Christmas with my family and I had to work out and I actually did a few laps on the Susan Auch oval.” (The speedskating track at the recreation complex is named for another Winnipeg Olympic speedskater).

“It’s something. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that. It’s just a tremendous honour and something I never dreamed of.”

In 2010 the Royal Canadian Mint released a quarter to honour Cindy Klassen’s five medals from the Turin Olympics. coinnews.net

Of the post-Turin Olympics quarters, Klassen says “A lot of people give them to me. They’ll find them and they’ll be like ‘Look what I found!’ And they give them to me. It’s surreal.”
