Staffing is being ramped up to deal with remaining claims to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Programs (PDAP) and get ready for any flooding to come this summer. Thirty additional staff members are on hand to process claims, coming from either within the government or from new hirings.
More than 5,900 claims have been filed in the province after devastating flooding in 2010, the largest number in PDAP’s history, and more than double the previous record number of claims set in the 2005-2006 fiscal year.
“Our government wants to ensure flooding victims have their PDAP claims completed as quickly as possible,” says Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister Yogi Huyghebaert. “I am confident that additional staffing and process changes to PDAP will help serve the people of this province better.”
To date the province has paid out more than $14.5 million. Partial payments have been given to 3,900 claimants and approximately 1,100 claims have been paid in their entirety. In addition to increased staffing, officials will now also process claims based on their relative size and risk, among other streamlining processes.
