SASKATOON – Former prominent Saskatoon businessman Leo Baribeau has taken the stand in his own trial after being charged with possessing and accessing child pornography.

Police seized two computers belonging to the 67-year-old in 2009.

They allegedly found around 500 illegal images mostly showing young girls between the ages of six and 12.

Under cross examination on Thursday, Baribeau claimed he used the file sharing software Limewire to download music and while searching for obscure songs inadvertently downloaded the illegal images.

But the Crown argued a record created by Limewire showed he only downloaded images and not music.

The computer originally belonged to Star Produce, a company Baribeau co-founded in 1989.

The trial was adjourned ahead of final arguments scheduled for Feb. 5.
