WATCH: World War 2 vet gets racy offer

HEDLEY – A daughter of a World War 2 veteran thought she was calling Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), but instead, got a racy offer.

Alda McCulloch dialed the number on her father’s health identification when she wanted to learn more about his coverage.

But this is what she heard on the other end: “Welcome to America’s hottest talk line. Ladies, talk to interesting guys for free. Press 1 now.”

She thought she misread the digits, so she dialed four more times.

But she got the same response each time.

McCullogh called another VAC number to get clarification.

“I just asked them: Is this something you’re offering for veterans?  The girl laughed and laughed on the phone.”

VAC says that number was associated with the organization in the 1990’s and early 2000’s.  But it’s one of many numbers which have been cancelled as part of an effort to create one centralized system.

McCullogh’s father will be getting a new health card with an updated VAC number in the mail soon.

But this experience has given her family a new story to talk about – and it never fails to give a good chuckle.
