He is now charged with first-degree murder in the death of his son, 45-year-old Terry McDougald.

Police say Terry McDougald had gone to a rural property around 8 a.m. with two other men to claim some property in what appears to have been an ongoing dispute when he was shot by his father.

Larry McDougald is also alleged to have fired at a second man and pointed a rifle at a third person.

McDougald will be back in court next week to determine if he will be tried by judge or a jury.
