Goal-setting workshop helps Edmontonians keep fitness resolutions

EDMONTON – A local fitness group is hoping to help Edmontonians meet their New Year’s resolutions.

Saturday night Blitz Conditioning, along with Kingsway Mall Lululemon, held a goal-setting workshop to kick off 2014.

“We really wanted to create a community initiative where… people could come in and have a space where they could start thinking about how they wanted to spend their 2014,” said Amy Coppens a trainer at Blitz Conditioning in Edmonton.

About 60 people took part in the event that featured yoga and individual coaching to help participants create a plan to succeed in both their short and long-term goals.

Attendee Joe DiFabio wants to focus on his health and fitness this year.

“Physically, maybe trying to lose a little bit of weight this year and also just improving my overall fitness. I’ve got a couple sporting activities this summer that I’d like to do and I’d like to make sure that I’m ready to do them.”

DiFabio made resolutions for 2013, but without a support system to hold him accountable said it was difficult to stick to them.

“Hopefully by doing this in a group setting with some people around me, people doing similar things, that it will help me stay accountable for these goals I set.”

According to Coppens, when it comes to realizing resolutions it’s important to compartmentalize your goals and keep in mind things change.

“To be a true goal setter you really need to be reassessing your goals every two to three months,” she said Friday. “Life happens, things happen, so you need to be reassessing those goals that you set up and sometimes you might not be accomplishing them and that’s 100 per cent okay.”

Blitz Conditioning also collected donations for Earth Group throughout the evening. For more information, visit the organization’s website.
