Around 6 p.m. on Sept. 21, RCMP were called to 196 Street and 84 Avenue after reports of shots fired.

Officers found one man dead and a second victim a few blocks over, at 208 Street and 78 Avenue, along with an SUV with its windows shattered.

On Monday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) identified the deceased victim as 38-year-old Johnathan Hebrada-Walters, from Edmonton, Alta.

They say Hebrada-Walters is known to police and “initial information indicates that this shooting was a targeted event, linked to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict.”

“The surviving victim, whose name is not being released, was also known to police,” IHIT added.

“We are in contact with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC) as well as policing partners in Alberta to determine how these victims are linked to one another,” Staff Sgt. David Lee with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a statement.
