The Canadian Armed Forces is launching an investigation after an accident sent more than a dozen soldiers to hospitals in Quebec.
The incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. Tuesday, involved two armoured vehicles in training areas at the Valcartier military base near Quebec City.
The public affairs office of the CAF initially reported 16 members of the 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group were hospitalized with minor injuries.
In an update Wednesday, the office said all soldiers involved were taken to different hospitals in the Quebec City region for evaluation “as a precautionary measure.”
“All the soldiers were released from hospital this morning and are expected to resume training very shortly,” the office said.
When asked about the incident, Defence Minister Bill Blair said the two vehicles collided and that he is awaiting more details from the upcoming investigation.
Civilian and military emergency services were involved and the CAF thanked the former for its “rapid response.”
The investigation will look into what caused the accident.
“We are currently working on repairing the damaged equipment so that we can resume our training activities in support of our missions,” the office said.
