SASKATOON – There were no injuries when a Jazz flight arriving in Saskatoon from Calgary slid off the runway.

Jazz Aviation spokeswoman Debra Williams says the approach and landing at the supper hour on Thursday evening went normally, but the aircraft slid on ice while taxiing to the gate and ended up in a snow-covered area.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Williams says the 52 passengers on board the flight, identified on the airport’s website as Air Canada flight 8588, were transported to the terminal building by bus.

She says initial reports indicate no damage to the aircraft, but she says maintenance personnel will be onsite to do a thorough inspection.

Airport officials could not be reached for comment on how the incident was affecting operations, but two Air Canada flights to Edmonton and Calgary were cancelled later in the evening.
