The leaders of the province’s anti-HST movement rolled into Vernon on Thursday.

Former premier Bill Vander Zalm and fellow anti-HST crusader Chris Delaney held a town hall meeting at Schubert Centre to raise awareness about the recall campaign against Vernon-Monashee MLA Eric Foster.

More than 100 people gathered to listen to Vander Zalm speak about his Fight HST campaign.

Vander Zalm says it would be a mistake to wait until the next provincial election to deal with the tax.

The former premier has been outspoken about the recall campaign, which targets a group of Liberal MLAs.

A recall requires 40 per cent of registered voters in a riding to sign a petition.

It has never been successfully done in B.C. before, but organizers are optimistic it will work this time.

Foster’s recall campaign is scheduled for March.

The MLA was not able to comment on Thursday’s rally due to illness but has said in the past that the recall campaign is distracting.

Two more recall campaigns are expected to get underway in early January in Kamloops and the Comox Valley.
