Police said they received a call for a person with a knife in the area around 3 p.m. on Sunday.

When officers arrived, two people were found inside a residence with stab wounds and later died, acting Duty Insp. Jeff Bassingthwaite said.

Both were in their 80s and were taken to hospital on Sunday, where life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

“There are no outstanding suspects and we believe that the person responsible is one of the deceased located inside the home,” Const. Shannon Eames said in an email to Global News on Monday.

Neighbours have identified the couple to Global News as Robert Miller and his wife Ulrike Miller, known as Rikki. The couple had two sons and had lived inside the two-storey home for 30 to 40 years.

In 2015, they were involved in a car accident which left Robert with critical injuries, Global News understands. Robert was eventually able to return home and was cared for by Rikki, who was a retired nurse.

Lin Jung Tan, who lives next door, said Rikki looked after and cooked for Robert who was confined to a wheelchair. She frequently drove him to medical appointments. “The couple is really good to each other,” Tan said through a neighbour who acted as a translator.

Global News also learned that, in 2017, one of the couple’s two sons lost his battle with cancer.

Rikki, writing in the comment section of her son’s online obituary, said: “A gift that was given to me to cherish and love for 40 short years!!! Your ever-loving Mom xxxxx (see you soon)”.

The Homicide Unit continues to investigate and spent the day collecting surveillance video from nearby homes and speaking to witnesses.

Police are asking if anyone has information to contact them.
