Man missing after falling overboard from ship

PRINCE RUPERT – An overnight search for a worker who fell overboard from a fish-processing ship south of Prince Rupert on Tuesday has failed to find the man.

Capt. Stu Robertson of Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria said in a recorded message early this morning that the search was continuing.

Several Coast Guard vessels and a Cormorant helicopter, along with the fish-processing ship, were involved in the search.

The Coast Guard received a man overboard call shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Robertson said the 120-metre vessel was operating near Princess Royal Island in the Inside Passage, about halfway between Prince Rupert and Bella Bella.

The ship, the Northern Vector, is registered to Icicle Seafoods Inc., a Seattle-based company.
