Saskatoon construction industry has record year in 2013

SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon issued building permits valued at approximately $1.1 billion in 2013.

Last year exceeded the record total permit value of 2012 by 0.6 per cent.

As of Dec.31 2013, 5,020 permits had been issued by the city, 176 permits short of the previous year.

Approximately 82 per cent of all 2013 permits were residential construction projects.

Twelve permits exceeded a value of $10 million compared to five in 2012.

City manager Murray Totland said these numbers are reflective of the tremendous growth Saskatoon is experiencing.
