Vernon residents get small tax break

It isn’t much, but Vernon taxpayers will be getting a bit back from the municipal government.

City council is returning more than $230,000 to taxpayers allocated to the city from a Regional District Hospital levy.

Vernon received the money last fall and at Monday’s council meeting decided to give the money back to taxpayers.

Based on average 2015 housing assessment rates the return amounts to about $8.50 for the average homeowner.

Resident won’t be cut a cheque for the repayment, instead it will be taken off their current hospital taxes.
