Edmonton police charge alleged base jumper

Edmonton – Edmonton police have charged a man with trespassing after he allegedly base-jumped off a downtown high rise.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) confirmed two people jumped off the Pearl Tower Thursday evening, a condo building under construction.

An EPS spokesperson said one man is in custody while a second person got away from police.

Priority 1 Security – which monitors the Pearl Tower – confirmed the intruders were spotted on camera at 6:16 p.m.

Guards were dispatched and police were called to make the arrest.

According to Priority 1, a third person may have also trespassed on site.

It’s not the first time base jumpers have used the tower.

In August, three people parachuted from the upper floors, landing on the Victoria Promenade, before taking off in a getaway vehicle. A man and a woman from Edmonton, along with a man from Australia were charged with trespassing.

According to Priority 1 Security, there have been similar breaches in recent months.
