WINNIPEG — The Boxing Day bargain hunt is alive and well in Winnipeg.
A few hundred people lined up outside of Best Buy on St. James before the store opened at 6 a.m. Thursday.
Samuel Matchett was the first to arrive at 1 a.m. and waited for hours in -22 C weather.
He and his friends were on the hunt for a Samsung TV.
“I am sure they are going to be on sale for quite a few hundred dollars off,” Matchett said.

A recent Bank of Montreal survey found 59 per cent of Canadians planned to shop on Boxing Day this year. That is down slightly from 2012.
Around 47 per cent said the same about Black Friday.
“I usually don’t do Black Friday,” said Janessa Wirth, who was one of dozens lined up outside of Lululemon before the store opened at 7 a.m. “I think there are better deals here on Boxing Day than Black Friday for sure.”

At Best Buy many of the advertised deals for Boxing Day were the same as on Black Friday.
A Canon SX50 camera was priced at $299 both days. There was also no difference for an LG 42-inch LED HD TV at $399.
“There are some similar deals,” said Jody Semen, the general manager at Best Buy on St. James. “We came out fighting for both of them, and we are going to let the consumer decide which one they want to shop on.”
