In closing arguments the defence insisted the alleged victim cannot be trusted because of his drug problem and lengthy criminal record.
The defence also said if Matthews is convicted, the accuser stands to gain financially and that the now-22-year-old “knew how to work the system.”

But the crown fired back arguing the alleged victim wouldn’t lie about the graphic sexual details.
She also argued the accuser’s criminal record doesn’t make him less credible.
This trial has been a long time coming; these alleged sex assaults began in the spring of 2005 and continued for several years.
