CALGARY- Health officials have issued a public warning, saying flu cases in Calgary are on the rise.
There have been nearly 150 lab confirmed cases in the city so far this year, including 23 in just the past two days. 66 people have had to be hospitalized since late August and 3 people have died.
“It’s really important for people to know that number one, influenza is really picking up in our city, and number two the best thing to do to prevent influenza is to get immunized,” says Dr. Judy MacDonald from AHS. “What we are seeing that’s different this year is the severity of illness in some of the hospitalized cases.
“Last year I don’t recall that we had that severe illness, but we do have individuals that are now in the intensive care unit now as we speak”
Flu shots are still available, but public clinic will be closed from Dec. 21 to Dec. 27. Click here for more information.
