Quesnel RCMP are continuing to investigate the death of two dogs stolen during a break and enter last week. They believe their deaths are the result of foul play and their bodies are being examined by a veterinarian to determine the cause of death.
Police also believe this was a targeted incident.
Police say the bodies of the two Boxers were found dead in the Slide Mountain area off the Nazko Highway early last Friday morning. The dogs’ bodies were found more than 50 kilometres from the Matthews Road home where they were stolen from less than 12 hours before.
Const. Krista Vrolyk says police received a report of a theft of four dogs from the home. She says the homeowner returned home and found someone or some people had entered his home and stolen four of his dogs.
The owner spread the word on social media that his dogs were missing.
Just after 4 a.m. passing motorists discovered one of the dogs, a Boxer, wandering off the highway. After stopping for the dog, the motorists followed tracks to two of the other dogs who were both deceased.
The fourth dog, a Daschund, has not yet been found.
Mounties are asking anyone travelling on the Nazko Highway during the early morning hours, (between midnight and 4 a.m.), on Dec. 13 who observed anything suspicious to call RCMP immediately. Anyone with any information regarding the death of these animals is asked to call 250-992-9211.
