They may not have their biological mom anymore but eight puppies are getting some help from their adopted mom Timber.

The puppies were found on Dec. 3 in Brookswood Park in Langley in a cardboard box with a tarp over the top. They were only about seven to ten days old when they arrived at the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS).

German Shepherd Timber had arrived at LAPS in early November. The man who dropped her off told the society she had been hanging around his property for several months but she kept getting out and he was worried she would get hit by a car. On Dec. 6 Timber had to have an emergency c-section and gave birth to two more puppies. But now she has a litter of 10 as she has adopted the abandoned pups.

“So far she’s been great, she’s wonderful,” says trainer and adoption counselor at LAPS, Becky Hemphill. “She treats them all the same.”

Hemphill says they do not know the exact breed of the puppies but they think they are likely a pit bull mix.

“[Timber’s] two little puppies are about 10 days behind the others, so we have to make sure they are getting enough milk,” says Hemphill.

A volunteer at LAPS has also set up a livestream so anyone can watch Timber and her puppies at any time of the day.

Hemphill says on average they get 1,156 people a day watching the stream. “We first set it up so that staff could keep an eye on Timber when the shelter was closed,” she says.

One long-time fan of LAPS is Langley resident Shauna Frankelson. “I love what LAPS does and I love seeing them do everything that they can for the animals,” she says. “They’re such special people.”

Frankelson has started a fundraising campaign through her Facebook page, where she will match donations from people up to $500 to make a $1,000 total.

Anyone who wants to donate can message Frankelson or donate directly to LAPS. Frankelson says she will be accepting donations until Dec. 20 and she will drop all the money off at LAPS on Dec. 21.

Hemphill says this time of year is not their busiest time, but with the 10 puppies they can use all the help they can get.
