WINNIPEG – The Ottawa Redblacks are one step closer to fielding a football team after making 24 selections in Monday’s three-round CFL expansion draft.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost three players to the newly minted franchise: receiver Wallace Miles, special teamer James Green and Canadian receiver Rory Kohlert. The Redblacks also picked up former Bombers quarterback Kevin Glenn from the Calgary Stampeders in the first-round.

The Redblacks were allowed to select an import player from each team in the opening round, choosing Miles from the Bombers. Miles made 11 catches for 158 yards and one touchdown in three games last season. He also played one game in 2012, joining the Bombers shortly after his release from the NFL’s Detroit Lions. Kohlert was the only player the Redblacks selected who is scheduled to become a free agent in February.

The Redblacks also chose a second quarterback, plucking Thomas Demarco from the BC Lions. Other first-round selections included Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back Chevon Walker, Edmonton Eskimos wide receiver Carlton Mitchell, Montreal Alouettes defensive lineman Moton Hopkins, Toronto Argonauts defensive lineman Jon Williams and Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman James Lee.
