2 people in critical condition after crash on Don Valley Parkway

Two people are in life-threatening condition after a crash that shut down part of the southbound Don Valley Parkway.

Toronto police said there were reports that a car hit a wall on the parkway approaching York Mills Road, which is just south of Highway 401.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Toronto police said the crash happened after a Nissan Sentra travelling “at a high rate of speed” south on the Don Valley Parkway hit a Chevrolet Silverado going the same way.

The Nissan reportedly lost control and hit a barrier on the west side of the road.

The driver was rushed to hospital and the passenger was extricated by Toronto firefighters, police said.

Paramedics told Global News they transported a man and a woman, both in their 20s, to a trauma centre in critical, life-threatening condition.

Police later clarified that a 42-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were the two people taken to hospital.

The southbound DVP was closed from Highway 401 to York Mills Road as officers conducted a reconstruction of the crash due to the extent of injuries.

It reopened on Wednesday evening.
